It's been almost a year since we started this space, welcoming children to join us after their school ends. This year has been a growth spurt not just for our students, but also for us - their FUN Learning Advocators! We got some of our kids to share what they think we have been doing great in:
It is truly our honour and privilege to be growing together with these kids! I thought of sharing some moments that have been exceptionally touching to observe in the kids:
As part of our routine, children will wash their dishes after lunch and tea break. It was initially filled with some reluctance when they first join us which we definitely understand - the kids barely do this at home! I'm so glad and proud of them now that this routine has become a part of their lives here at FUN, and they are taking more responsibility in cleaning up after them. What's more is them being extra grateful and not taking for granted when we 'help' them wash their dishes!
Children are more embracing towards each other, and also watch out for each other! As children mingle with one another, it is unavoidable for disagreements to come up. Through lots of reasoning and discussions, they are not able to show more kindness and empathy towards one another, as well as come up with solutions on their own so that everyone can be happy!
They have gained more self-awareness and are able to regulate their emotions better. When they find themselves triggered, children would take a step back and breathe before responding to the situation.
The children are now more willing to try, in both their academic work as well as learning new skills as they know that they are always supported and never alone! The development of a growth mindset is truly nurturing them to be more patient and to try/practice more when it doesn't seem to go well. We find that this can be exceptionally challenging in today's context where kids are usually with their helpers at home or in an overcrowded student care centre.
We're definitely growing together with the children as they embark on this journey, and should you be looking at a space like FUN Commune for your child to grow in, give us a ring at 9363 6162. Seats for 2025's intake are super limited!!
Warmly,
Kei
